In July 2021, I created two tours for Ordnance Survey’s Secret Stories app. The app encourages families to explore and learn about their local area through narrative-driven walking tours. For the tours, I researched and tested routes, wrote informative and entertaining copy suitable for children and adults, and sourced relevant imagery.
The first tour was of Hilly Fields in Brockley. It invited walkers to discover the park’s turbulent history. As it turns out, this small green corner of South London played a part in Suffragette marches and the Battle of Britain.
The second tour focused on London’s Abbey Wood and Plumstead. It shared stories about the prehistoric creatures that once roamed the area and the treasonous plot that led to the creation of Lesnes Abbey — the now-ruined monastery that gives Abbey Wood its name.
